Lakeside Country Guest House is an Edwardian property situated on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake with great views towards Skiddaw mountain range.
We are ideally situated just a few minutes drive from either Keswick or Cockermouth the birthplace of William Wordsworth. The house retains many of its original features including stained glass windows,some original fireplaces, oak flooring and panelled walls.
All of our rooms are immaculate. 7 double or twins offer en-suite shower or bathrooms. The smaller double is offered as a single at a reduced rate and has a lake view and private bathroom. The superior rooms have lake and mountain views. All have colour TV, radio alarm, hairdryer, tea and coffee and big, fluffy bath towels. A complimentary tea tray is served with home made biscuits on arrival.
At Lakeside the emphasis is on a friendly atmosphere and food. We offer a good menu choice for breakfast which includes home made haselnut muesli and creamy natural yoghurt, apricots, prunes and grapefruit. Warm all butter croissants, and of couse full Cumbrian breakfasts including cumberland sausage, local best bacon and delicious fresh farm eggs. Vegetarians are also well catered for. A 3 course Dinner with coffee is available most nights with prior notice. All produce is freshly prepared, even the desserts! You can expect an excellent meal with flavour and great presentation prepared by owner Arnold who happens to be a qualified Chef. Excellent value at £23.50 and complimented with a range of affordable wines and locally brewed bottled beers. Arnold met his wife Sharon when he was Head Chef on the cruise ships. He made his name in Cumbria working at the famous Sharrow Bay where he cooked for Barbara Streisand and many more celebs.
