Centrally placed for exploring the Suffolk coast, Minsmere RSPB Reserve, Aldeburgh and Snape, Lavender Blue is a family-run B&B in the market town of Leiston.
We have two letting rooms, a double and a twin. These share a modern bathroom with power shower and sitz bath (good for soaking tired feet after walking on the heath or in the nearby woods). In quieter periods we may be willing to let just one room, so that guests have sole use of the bathroom, so don't let the fact that there are no ensuite facilities put you off.
The B&B is on the outskirts of the town, within walking distance of shops, cinema and swimming pool. Our rooms are comfortable and well equipped, with television, hairdryer, tea and coffee facilities and a writing desk in each. We serve a full English breakfast, preceded by fruit compote, juice, fresh seasonal fruit (there's a soft fruit farm behind the house), muesli, porridge or cereal and yogurt. Lighter options are always available and we are happy to serve breakfast early if you are going out birding or walking.
If you need advice about places to visit, we'll gladly assist, but try not to be too intrusive. Local attractions include Leiston's Long Shop Museum - a tribute to Leiston's Industrial past, when Garrett's Engineering Works produced steam locomotives that were sold all over the world. An equally good museum is to be found at Dunwich, the city that sank under the sea. Nearby Thorpeness is a lovely spot and children enjoy feeding the ducks or taking a boat out on the Meare.
There are 18-hole golf courses at Thorpeness and Aldeburgh, as well as several 9-hole pay and play courses in the vicinity.
If you are planning a visit to the Aldeburgh Festival or the Aldeburgh Poetry Festival - or just fancy a quiet weekend beside the sea, Lavender Blue will make an excellent base.

Directions
How to get here:
From London, take the A12 to Ipswich (junction 28 on the M25). You will bypass Chelmsford and Colchester before arriving at the major roundabout on the outskirts of Ipswich. Go round the roundabout and take the A14 Felixstowe exit. After crossing the Orwell Bridge, take the second exit signposted A12 Lowestoft.
Stay on the A12, heading north. Just after the village of Stratford-St-Andrew, go up the hill and then turn right on to the A1094 signposted Aldeburgh.
After about three miles, turn left on to the B1069, signposted Leiston.
Continue straight along this road, through the village of Knodishall, until you reach Leiston. Go through the traffic lights (White Horse hotel on the right) and across the level crossing. You are still on the same road, but it is now the B1122, Abbey Road. You will pass a football field on your left, and number 49 is the fourth house on the left after that. Swing in to the driveway between the laurel hedges and park on the gravel in front of the house.
From the Midlands, take the A14 to Ipswich and continue towards Felixstowe, picking up the instructions above
If you are travelling by train, the nearest station is Saxmundham and we can arrange for a taxi to pick you up.
