Almara is the furthest north B&B on mainland Shetland and is situated in the parish of Northmavine.
This warm and welcoming bed and breakfast is situated at Upper Urafirth, one and a half miles before Hillswick and offers you easy access to the spectacular cliffs at Hillswick Ness and Eshaness, with Ronas Hill, North Roe and Ollaberry only a short drive away.
Staying here you can enjoy superb walking terrain, observe abundant
wildlife and see some of the beautiful and interesting sights that has made Northmavine the most scenic district in Shetland.
A superb walking area with 120 miles of some of the best coastal scenery in Shetland, with many of the rock formations able to be enjoyed from a car, so it is ideal sightseeing for anyone with a walking disability.
At Almara you will find a comfortable and ideal base from which to
explore the natural beauty of this area and beyond.
Perfect for spotting otters, seals, whales and dolphins, bird watching or finding some of the rare plants that this area has to offer.
If your interest is photography, trout fishing, geology, archaeology,
diving, or just plain peace and quiet then you will not be disappointed with a holiday spent here.
On the other hand if you must keep in touch with the outside world, that's no problem - all rooms are wireless enabled and although there are no TV's in the bedrooms, there is a HD television with Sky programmes available in the shared sittingroom - if you can tear yourself away from the panoramic view from the window!
If you're travelling light and need to to do some laundry, you'll be pleased to learn there is a coin operated washing machine and a tumble drier available at Almara.
At Almara we have always been conscious of the need to protect our environment, particularly when we are so close to such outstanding natural habitats, so we do all we can to minimise our own and that of our guests impact on it by encouraging guests to bring back all bottles and wrappings to be safely disposed of at Almara.
We are as energy efficient as is possible and try to keep up with current advice on any energy saving measures we can use in our home.
We recycle everything that is past its acceptable use in a four star B&B with a passion and although it's a slow process composting in Shetland, it is very important to us!
We encourage the thoughtful use of towels, water and switching off unneeded lights.
But at all times the health and safety, food hygiene and fire safety of our guests are our first and prime considerations at Almara.
We use environmentally friendly products, source organic, free range and local produce and whenever possible we buy Fair Trade goods.
Can I look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful islands soon ?
