Discover the delights of the Peak District National Park in the tranquil and stunning surroundings of Underleigh House. This extended cottage and barn conversion (dating from 1873) with its cosy, traditional interior is an award-winning B&B run with enthusiasm. The location, nestling at the foot of Lose Hill and overlooking the Noe Valley towards Win Hill, is in the heart of magnificent walking country and offers everything the discerning walker requires. For those not so energetic, visits to Chatsworth, Haddon, Lyme, Eyam, Bakewell and Castleton will appeal.
We are only too happy to advise on your day's activities and can supply maps and a packed lunch if required.
Underleigh has a superb reputation both with previous guests and all the major tourist guides, and has been awarded the prestigious 5 Star grading for guest accommodation. This is further endorsed by the AA's 'egg cup' accolade (being the symbol for memorable breakfasts) and VisitBritain's Gold Award. Repeatedly recommended by independent publications such as the Good Hotel Guide, the Which? Guide to Good Hotels and the Which? Good B&B Guide, Underleigh was selected as one of the 'Editor's Top 20' in the 2004 edition of the Which? Good B&B Guide and was the winner of ˜Best Breakfast" at the Derbyshire Food and Drink Awards in 2004. Underleigh has won the Gold Award in the Bed and Breakfast category at the 2006 East Midlands Enjoy Excellence Awards. Underleigh also holds a Peak District Environmental Quality Mark and is a Peak District Cuisine member.
There are six delightful en suite bedrooms: 1 twin, and 5 doubles (two of which are on the ground floor) all with king size beds. The newly refurbished Thornhill Suite has its own direct access from the outside via a stone staircase and comprises a charming double bedroom with an adjoining lounge. Leading from the lounge is a luxurious bathroom with spacious shower-bath. Superior beds with quality duvets and pillows encourage a relaxing night in all rooms.
In the morning experience the delicious breakfasts served in 'house-party' style around the large oak refectory table in the flagstoned dining hall. The home-made specialities on offer include our own recipe muesli, our own breads, several fruit compotes and porridge gently simmered overnight in the Aga. The tasty sausages, eggs and black pudding are all local, as are the soft Derbyshire oatcakes (a traditional delicacy specific to the area).
After a day out in the Peak Park you can relax in the beamed lounge (with log fire when chilly) or on the terrace surrounded by flowers. Although evening meals are not served, there are several fine eating establishments within a short drive.
