Keepers Cottage is a delightful Cumbrian cottage ,approx 250 years old, built of local stone reputedly from Brougham Castle and complete with an original Westmoreland chimney.
We are on the edge of the Lake District National Park but are within easy reach of the M6 motorway and the A66 Cross-Pennine route. We are 30 minutes away from Hadrian's Wall, Carlisle and the Scottish Border. Also within easy reach are the Lake district towns of Keswick and Kendal, while Windermere is 25 miles away and Ullswater only 5 miles.
One of the recently-voted most scenic routes in Britain leaves from nearby to the market town of Alston. It's often used in period dramas. We are in a quiet rural setting with very peaceful surroundings. There's plenty of secure off-road parking available as well various dog walks.
Our bedrooms are all en-suite and are equipped with tea and coffee makings, TV and complimentary toiletries. Our cottage has lots of original features and antique furnishings and is extremely comfortable and inviting. We provide a typically Cumbrian breakfast with local produce and homemade preserves; served to you, in the summer, in a large sunny conservatory, overlooking open countryside. In the winter we serve breakfast in a large, beamed dining room.
Your hosts will be Pat and Jim Wright who will make you very welcome.
